“Bumblebee,” the sixth live-action “Transformers” movie, has no business being as disarmingly charming as it is, but a new director and time period have done wonders for the critically reviled $4-billion-dollar franchise.
The previous five “Transformers” films were all directed by Michael Bay, with only the first getting decent reviews from critics. I checked out of the series after three, when it became clear the films were offering nothing new. Each new installment was just bigger and more bombastic than the last.
