FRYEBURG, Maine — Buoyed by fair but occasionally cooler blustery weather, the 176th Fryeburg Fair got off to a good start this week with fair skies and  seasonable temperatures forecast through closing day Sunday.

Paid attendance on opening day when the weather was seasonable Sunday, Oct. 4, was 25,344 (up from the total first reported of 24,766), compared to last year’s paid attendance of 20,309. The record for opening day — 29,955 — was set in 2001.
