PETERBOROUGH — The host ConVal Cougars rode the right hand of sophomore pitcher Sydney Borges to a comfortable 9-0 home victory over Kennett High in the opening round of the Division II softball playoffs last Wednesday. Borges, who collected her 200th career strikeout in the contest, struck out 14, walked none and scattered three hits in the complete game shutout win.
“She’s pretty good,” Larry Meader, Eagles’s head coach, said of Borges. “We only had three hits and didn’t get any walks. It’s tough to score when you don’t hit.
