Although there is much opportunity to kayak right here in Mount Washington Valley, it is sometimes fun to venture outside the community and discover some gem you never knew existed. Garland Pond is one of the gems. Some of the gems I have discovered will remain my secret as long as I can keep them, but this one I have decided to share. Let's get the directions out of the way fi rst, and then we can talk about what this lovely pond has to offer.To get there from the Valley, simply drive south on Route 16 to Route 25 in Ossipee. Turn right at the traf-fi c light (looking straight ahead you will be looking at the Yankee Smokehouse) and continue through South Tamworth toward Meredith. When you get to the little village of Moultonborough you will want to slow down and watch for the elemen-tary school on your left. As soon as you pass the school, look to your right for Garland Pond Road. Once you turn you will feel like you are in someone's driveway. You aren't, you are in the right place, so drive past the little house on your left and follow the lane that will take you past a fi eld on your right. This is where you will park, but before you do, drive a little further so you can unload your kayak at the little put-in, then drive back and park.Garland Pond is actually a series of connected little
