Looking back over past Christmas articles I wrote for The Mountain Ear and later The Conway Daily Sun, I noticed a pattern. At least three of the articles focused on the need for snow, usually under the title, “All I want for Christmas is snow or more snow.” They were the typical end-of-December skier lament that there wasn’t enough snow for skiing.

After the rain and snow melt on Dec. 19, I thought about repeating that refrain. When I checked the cross-country ski conditions last Sunday, most Nordic centers were still recovering from the storm. Those who had skiing offered a limited amount.
