Tuesday was phenomenal, with temps in the 70s in the valley. On top of Mount Washington there was a balmy high of 42 degrees. I picked that day to climb up the Tuckerman Ravine Trail to Hermit Lake and continue to the base of the Tuckerman Ravine Bowl.

Many skiers and hikers were aware of the potential for a spring-like day on the mountain. Despite being midweek, when I arrived at AMC Pinkham Notch Camp about 10 a.m. the entire parking lot was full and I had to park out on the side of Route 16. At that point, there were only 10 cars parked on the highway. When I returned about 2:30 p.m., they lined the road about a quarter of the way to Glen Ellis Falls.
