“The fall is a bittersweet time of year. There is so much to love about this time of year; the foliage, the golden light of the late afternoon on a pond, the morning mist, on that same pond with a backdrop of red maples and the bright colors of a male brook trout are all things to be savored. At the same time, the last car show was last weekend and my favorite ice cream stand is already closed. And even more important the end of trout season draws near.”

I wrote those words for a column five years ago, and they are as true today as they were then. I absolutely love this time of year, and it just might be my favorite.
