North Country Angling - Coon Brook Bog

Coon Brook Bog is home to some of New Hampshire’s finest brook trout. (SWIFT RIVER GHILLIE PHOTO)

The first time this angler fished Coon Brook Bog was in 1974. After years of hearing about the beautiful brook trout in the bog, Dad finally decided to take the K-5 Blazer and make the trek.

The road into the bog was dependent on whether or not there had been any logging done in the area and whether the road was improved for the logging trucks to pass. In between logging stints, the road was left to return to its natural state. There were many springs when four-wheel-drive vehicles had to be extracted by the logging crews' skidder.
