The war in Iran has entered its third week. Although American and Israeli airstrikes have significantly weakened Iran’s military, some observers believe the conflict has reached a critical inflection point. A recent Israeli strike on Iranian energy facilities, followed by Iranian retaliation against similar targets in neighboring countries, raises the prospect of a broader regional war. Meanwhile, the Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly 20 percent of the world’s oil supply passes, remains largely closed. At the same time, 2,500 U.S. Marines are en route, signaling preparations for an amphibious operation.
