The Conway public bathroom committee on Tuesday revisited the idea of staffing and opening  the  Whitaker House at Whitaker Woods — currently closed to the public — as public restrooms instead of building new facilities with the $399,000 allocated at town meeting. Town Engineer Paul DegliAngeli said, “It is boggling my mind” that the town isn’t using the bathrooms at Whiteaker Meeting House. Selectman Steve Porter worried the building would get trashed by disrespectful tourists. Incoming Town Manager Johnny Eastman said the bathrooms would have to be staffed and perhaps cordoned off from the meeting room used by the Conservation Commission. Money for staffing would come from sources like the rec revolving fund because the article is strictly for bathroom construction.

This week’s Tele-Talk: Should the town use the Whitaker House as public restrooms rather than build new facilities?
