We need to get this straight, so let's reflect a bit. President Barack Obama spoke to Vladimir Putin; Hillary Clinton, while secretary of state, spoke to Putin; President Joe Biden spoke to Putin. However, a few days ago, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen went on camera to criticize President Donald Trump for talking to Putin.
No one had a problem with Trump talking to him, Trump said he could get a cease fire, or there would be ‘serious consequences’ for Russia. The fear was that he would do exactly what he did. Welcoming him on American soil was not appropriate. Trump ignored the arrest warrant issued for Putin by the International Criminal Court that has kept him mostly confined at home or in nations that are his strong allies. Having American troops roll out a red carpet for him on their hands and knees, made a great image in Russia. Trump standing on the red carpet and clapping for him, like a little boy. Oh, and the flyover by military jets to ‘honor’ him. Putin got everything he wanted. We don’t greet our allies as warmly. Compared to how he treated Zelensky, it was shameful. And what did Trump get, nothing. The red carpet treatment, the lack of concrete decisions for Ukraine and, most significantly, neglecting the significance of sanctions, that Trump promised if no ceasefire — a policy that could turn the tide in Kyiv’s favor must have felt like a betrayal for Ukrainians who have borne enormous suffering in the almost three-and-a-half years since Russia’s full-scale invasion, because it was.
Yeah, how dare Trump even try to stop the bloody conflict that has nothing to do with us? How dare he, especially since it wasn't even his administration that allowed/fostered it to happen in the first place, those three and a half years ago. What nerve. Who does he think he is?
Yup, I can still remember the months leading up to this war while 'Ole Joe sat on his hands watching Russian troops and tanks slowly, deliberately massed at the border. Of course, there was the famous Kamala visit where she practically dared the Russians with her implied threat of Ukraine's membership into NATO.
Yup, what a mess left behind for Trump to try and clean up.
So, the quick and simple answer to your question is:
The Left, Trump Haters, and all of their fellow travelers will never, ever give Trump his due when it comes to any of his accomplishments.
They will look for the smallest and most insignificant "signs" of defect to zero in on.
Let's face it, if Trump were to facilitate another cease-fire or peace agreement, his detractors would still be critical of something. Perhaps the color of his tie or the type of pen he used, or even the way he shook hands.
You see, Trump Derangement Syndrome is a very real mental health issue, just like so many of the twisted and bizarre issues that have caused the Democrat Party's poll numbers to fall so deeply and quickly.
