To the editor:

I am a career law enforcement officer with 43 years of service, 29 of those as a police chief in Massachusetts and, more recently, California. I retired at the end of 2018. I have never, in my entire career, seen anything like what we now see frequently with these roundups with ICE. Masked ICE agents with a hodgepodge of quasi-military uniforms and gear, no professional demeanor, and very questionable training.

“I am a career law enforcement officer with 43 years of service, 29 of those as a police chief in Massachusetts and, more recently, California.”

Your claim to be a “Chief of Police” seems purposely misleading. The truth is, there are no records indicating any service with a city, town, or other municipal police force (e.g., no mention of Boston PD, Los Angeles PD, or similar).

Not to diminish your career, but truth and accuracy matter. There is a huge difference between what a campus police department does and that of a Municipal, City, State or Federal Police department. Before you get critical of a Federal Law Enforcement Agency, you should have at the very least clarified your credentials as a (Campus) “Chief of Police”.

I speak from experience as a former Federal LEO, Federal Police Officer, and retired Director of Campus Security (40+ years in total).

As for the tragic deaths of Alex Pretti and Renee Good, the responsible thing to do is to wait for the results of a thorough investigation and their conclusions before offering an opinion.

Here are the questions that seem to be abundantly absent from the current conversation by those on the Left: How culpable are the Mayor and the Governor for their increasingly inflammatory rhetoric and their obvious lack of support from the law enforcement agencies they are responsible for? Why do they appear to be openly encouraging so much illegal behavior? Where is the unspoken cooperation and support that has been the historical expectation of all law enforcement agencies? Why aren’t these local assets doing their part to perform crowd control? Why are the Mayor and the Governor allowing activist protestors to go far beyond peacefully assembling and actively attacking and interfering with law enforcement operations? Why are federal law enforcement assets allowed to be vandalized and stolen? Why are private buildings and businesses allowed to be vandalized or interfered with? Why is an illegal “autonomous zone” allowed to be created?

How is it that a civilian carrying a firearm was able to physically insert himself into an active law enforcement incident? In what world is this even considered a responsible action by a civilian carrying a firearm? In what law enforcement academy is it taught that a civilian is allowed to interfere in an arrest, let alone assist the perpetrator? What is it that has created an atmosphere that makes acting this way even an option? This is, in fact, a highly dangerous abnormal development.

I would suggest that most Chiefs would agree that if the local police department were deployed and doing their job of crowd control, there is a very good possibility that this incident and the Renee Good incident would not have happened.

You might consider keeping your opinions to yourself regarding how ICE operates and who is being apprehended. It is far too easy from your perch to be critical. We have all seen how campus police departments deal with, or should I say, don’t deal with protestors over the last year. Only to have the local police departments deal with it.

You’d be better off explaining actual, basic law enforcement doctrine to the general public so they know what is and isn’t allowable. You should be more critical of how this entire situation was allowed to develop when it could and should have been contained from the very beginning with interagency cooperation.

Instead, the Mayor and Governor would rather gain political advantage with gratuitous optics and negative ICE narratives. They are desperately trying to redirect everyone’s gaze away from the billion-dollar corruption being investigated.

Oh my God MEPD, your brainwashing is so thorough, you go even more ridiculous than liars like Kristi Noem and her little Gestapo boy Bovino! Even Trump realizes these morons have let loose untrained and unqualified idiots on the American population and is pulling them back.

While there needs to be a full investigation to ensure the right people are held accountable and procedures are corrected to ensure things like these shootings don't happen again, the videos are very clear that the protestors are not aggressive, they are well within their rights, and the ICE agents are acting in illegal ways assaulting and shooting peaceful protestors.

It's the epitome of hypocrisy for MAGA morons like you to try to claim a protestor shouldn't have been there carrying a gun he's legally permitted to carry. Where was that thought on January 6th, 2021? Where has that thought been after every mass shooting? On those occasions the only thing people like you are concerned about is never, ever diminishing gun owners' rights to carry anywhere, at any time, a la Kyle Rittenhouse. Carry an AR-15 to a protest looking to shoot someone and doing so? Come on down to Mar-a-Lago and be treated like a hero! Go to a protest, try to help a woman up that stormtrooper ICE agents had assaulted and knocked to the ground, get pepper sprayed relentlessly, assaulted, shoved to the ground, have your legal firearm stripped, then have two murderers fire 10 shots at you while you're pinned to the ground by several stormtroopers.

Yet somehow idiots like you will continue to try to place blame elsewhere, lie about the protestors and their actions, and somehow try to point blame at anyone else other than those who have heaped it upon themselves with their actions, even when the ultimate moron in the White House realizes supporting these actions is untenable.

You seriously need professional help MEPD.

Your obsession with the scandal that is being addressed properly in Minnesota while scandal after scandal from your dear leader goes completely unaddressed by you is so telling about your mental status.

It's not Minnesota that's attempting to redirect everyone's gaze, it's Trump. Where are the Epstein files? Why is he so terrified of them? What kind of monster do they show him to be?

Those are the questions you should be asking, not moronic ones worthy only of idiots like Tucker Carlson and Alex Jones.

By all appearances these agents are improperly screened for disciplined police work and also insufficiently trained. One top of that heir supervisors and the heads of other federal law enforcement agencies, and the administration, are spring loaded to defend agent conduct no matter how heinous. What is worse? - In defense of their agents they lie blatantly to discredit the lives of the very ordinary American citizens who are needlessly killed.

All that is on top of the fact that the conservative Cato Institute finds only 5% of the people ICE is rounding up are the "violent" criminals ICE is purportedly pursuing.

Everything about this is insane, but sadly not surprising from our criminal-in-chief.
