The sizable majority of Conway citizens who voted to restore more traditional names to our elementary schools must be wondering why they've heard nothing more about it since the election. So are most of us who attended the last school board meeting, where even some of those board members who professed support for the restoration seemed full of flimsy excuses for delaying action on it.
While campaigning for seats on the board, Joe Mosca and Megan Beckwith both pledged to support renaming the schools if the petitioned article on that subject passed, and both were elected. Mike DiGregorio and Randy Davison have both consistently supported the idea throughout this long, unnecessary controversy, and Davison made an unsupported motion to restore the names. Even Matt Stearns — cognizant that he is up for reelection next, and that voters have twice rejected budgets he was instrumental in inflating — hinted that he would finally condescend to heed public opinion.
