• Copenhagen (Denmark) remains the world's most liveable city, scoring a perfect 100 out of 100 in three categories, with Vienna (Austria) and Melbourne (Australia) close behind.
  • New York's score improved noticeably, by 1.2 points, one of the largest gains recorded by any city in the index.
  • Western Europe is still the strongest region for liveability, but its average score of 91.7 is fractionally lower than it was a year ago, while Asia's has risen by 0.3 to 73.9.
  • The Iran war has undermined stability across the Gulf region, contributing to a 1-point decline in the average liveability score for cities in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), now 61.2.
  • Chinese cities have climbed up the rankings, owing to their improved scores for healthcare.
  • After dropping places last year due to rioting, Manchester (52nd), London (54th) and Edinburgh (64th) all stabilised.
  • EIU's Global Liveability Index assesses 173 cities across the world across 30 indicators grouped into five categories: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure.
