What Women Need to Know About Cardiovascular Disease

(NewsUSA) - Heart disease is often thought of as a condition that affects older adults, but new research from the American Heart Association suggests the future of women's heart health may be far more concerning—and that prevention should begin much earlier in life.

A new scientific statement published in Circulation, the flagship peer-reviewed journal of the American Heart Association, projects that nearly 6 in 10 women in the United States will be living with some form of cardiovascular disease by 2050 if current health trends continue. The increase is largely driven by rising rates of high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity—conditions that are becoming more common not only among adults but also among younger women and girls.
