PINKHAM NOTCH — The soon-to-open Glen House Hotel will be the fifth by that name in the general vicinity of the Mount Washington Auto Road. All four of its predecessors burned, with the last consumed by fire in 1967.

In 1851, the Grand Trunk Railway was completed from Portland, Maine, to Gorham. Tourist traffic increased dramatically.
