JACKSON — Affordable housing was the focus of a community forum at the Whitney Community Center Tuesday night.

About 55 people attended the meeting which was the result of a town meeting article passed in March, in which residents agreed to accept a Plan NH grant to hire a consultant to help study housing, population and local land use conditions.

TOWN MEMBER

I wanted to talk tabout the housing problem and some other problems here in Jackson. I heard you were interested in this through the Conway Daily Sun. It is really funny that these older people say they want younger people here. I am one of the youngest and very few long term residents here, and these older people treat me very bad. They say they want younger people here, but when myself or others who are younger raise their voices to address their problems and concerns, we get told to shut up and only are allowed to speak to the Selectmen in private. I feel as though the Town of Jackson are not only in violation of my Freedom of Speech, but also New Hampshire's Right to Know Law. Basically, the town of Jackson is trying to disenfranchise me and my hard working family. Something needs to be done, to hold them accountable to the taxpayers.
