JACKSON — The oldest ski area in New Hampshire and one of the oldest in the country is closing.

Owned by the Fichera family since 1996, Black Mountain Ski Area competed in an increasingly corporate era as a small, independent area beloved by generations of families for its friendly trails, sunny exposure and protected topography.

Sad to see them go. I hope someone can step in to revitalize the area and keep it as a ski resort.
