MADISON — A Charlotte Point Road home abutting Silver Lake was saved from destruction after a fire broke out in the basement early Wednesday night. No one was home when the blaze occurred, and Madison Fire Chief Michael Brooks credited a quick response by his department and “terrific” mutual aid from surrounding departments with saving the structure.

According to Brooks, a charging lithium battery in the basement of the 229 Charlotte Point Road home owned by John Frenz of Boston appears to have caused the fire. The 2,206-square-foot structure was built in 1969.
