The Eastern Slope Land Alliance, a new nonprofit organization, aims to address community needs through a land trust model focused on "decommodification." By acquiring land and removing it from the speculative market, the Alliance intends to provide stable assets for housing, agriculture, and small businesses. Using a shared equity model, homeowners can build equity while ensuring long-term affordability via 99-year land leases and resale formulas. Currently seeking 501(c)(3) status and funding through donations and grants, the group seeks to fill gaps left by private markets and municipal limitations. They are hosting a community launch event this Saturday to gather feedback.
