On Friday, Tamworth Christmas festivities kicked off with a popular fundraiser known as the Tamworth Community Nurses’ Holiday Party in The Preserve’s guest house dining room. I was welcomed in the parking lot by owners Ed and Mary Phelps. Dinner was preceded by an opportunity to mingle, and enjoy drinks and hors d’oevres in the inn’s ground floor rooms, all exquisitely decorated. The place settings incorporated Christmas keepsakes made from charred remnants of the barn, recently destroyed by fire. Joanne Rainville enthusiastically introduced members of the board, thanked them for all their hard work and welcomed all the guests. Throughout the evening, pianist Becky Ver Planck provided seasonal music. Dinner was prepared by caterers Kimball and Neysa Packard of The Farm Stand in Chocorua. Thanks so much to everyone who made this an evening to remember.

Tamworth Recreation Department leads a trip to the Magic of Christmas Concert again this year on Sunday, Dec. 10. Enjoy the Portland Symphony at the Merrill Auditorium. The cost is $25 per person, including transportation and admission and a wonderful opportunity for those who are reluctant to drive at night and anyone who wants a special Christmas outing. The bus leaves the K.A. Brett School at 2:45 p.m. and returns at 8:30 p.m. Please call Parker Roberts at (603) 323-7582 for information and reservations.
