Mountain Top Music Center marked its 10th anniversary with a gala concert at the Conway Historical Society's Salyards Museum in Conway Village on a recent Sunday afternoon. The music school's 20-member community orchestra, plus several guest soloists, played pieces by Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Telemann, Hovhaness and a variety of other composers. A highlight of the concert was Haydn's "Toy Symphony," with prominent local guest soloists on toy drum, toy bugle, slide whistle, bird whistle, ratchet and rattle. The concert was also the public kick-off of Mountain Top's fund-raising campaign as it works toward creating a permanent home in the former Conway Fire Station building. "We're already more than halfway to our goal of $250,000," Mountain Top director Ellen Schwindt told the concert audience. "A very generous local foundation has pledged $25,000, to match contributions from $1 to $1,500 from individuals. They really want to see wide community involvement in the project, so we hope that a lot of people will make contributions, even if they're only small ones." To contribute to the Mountain Top project, send checks to Mountain Top Music, P.O. Box 2322, North Conway, NH 03860. For more information, call 356-5995, or e-mail music@mountaintopmusic.org.
