I know I’ve been writing about autonomous cars and driving lately, but that’s the industry news these days. I’d love to tell you about the latest affordable truck or fun car painted in a color other than grayscale but the auto and tech industries are steadily sliding towards a collision. And as much a many of us would love to read about the latest development in internal combustion technology, I’m afraid that ship has sailed.

Where am I going with this? Into the seat of a robotaxi. Would you ride in one? It seems a lot of people would — and do. According to the TechCrunch Mobility newsletter, Waymo, the Alphabet-owned commercial robotaxi service, currently operates in six markets, including Phoenix, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Austin, Atlanta and Miami. You may recall Alphabet is the parent of Google, and Waymo has plans to invest $16 billion into expanding their market to a dozen cities internationally, setting their sights on places like Tokyo and London.
