Nadia E. Hermos

Nadia Elaine Hermos of Casco, died peacefully at the age of 91 at the Brigham and Womens Medical Center’s hospice unit. She had most recently been a resident at Rogerson House, an extended care facility in Jamaica Plain, Mass. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., grew up in Englewood, N.J., spent her adult life and career in New York City before moving to Casco in 1997. 

Nadia was the daughter of Suhail Hermos, a business man who had immigrated from Lebanon, and Olga (Mussawir) Hermos. In her childhood, she excelled in music and art and was the piano accompanist for her high school chorus and singing group, the Chansoneers. She graduated from Wellesley College (’56) as an Art History major. Living in NYC, Nadia was an editorialist for special exhibits at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and then as the “How To Editor” at Woman’s Day magazine where she shared her talent in knitting and other handcrafted designs. She was a prolific painter of portraits and landscapes. As a professional woman in New York City, Nadia was active in, and had many friends and colleagues in the fields of art, amateur theater and music.
