HIRAM — General Peleg Wadsworth purchased a land grant in Hiram in 1790 — 7,800 acres at 12 1/2 cents per acre — covering land between the Ossipee and Saco Rivers and north to Clemons Pond. But just where is it?Â

The Hiram Historical Society presents Walking Along the Wadsworth Grant on Saturday, Aug. 15 at 1 p.m. at the Great Ossipee Museum of Hiram Historical Society, 20 Historical Ridge (off Main Street, Route 117). The Wadsworth Grant is the largest land grant in Hiram. Others are Timothy Cutler’s along the west bank of the Saco River, Prescott’s grant on the east side of the Saco River (much of Hiram village), Josiah Waters between the Ossipee and Saco rivers, and the Denmark Gore.Â
