Frederick (Fred) Ernest Stuart Jr. quietly passed away on January 5, 2026, in Stuart, Fla. He was 97.

Fred was born in Daytona Beach, Fla, on April 3, 1928, as the only child of Frederick Ernest Stuart Sr. and Grace Tippins Stuart. After spending his early childhood in Florida and greater New York City, the family moved to Baltimore, Md., when Fred was nine. He attended the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute (Poly), and went on to receive his BS degree in Chemical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1949. That same year he married his high school sweetheart Jane Oliver Lloyd (thereafter known as Jollie Stuart), and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserves. He retired as a Captain in 1961.
