Lakes Environmental Association (LEA) held its annual meeting last week at Camp Fernwood Cove on Tuesday, Aug. 18 celebrating 56 years of protecting the region’s lakes and ponds. Over 150 people attended and heard updates from staff and board members on key programs, projects, and partners.
At the event, LEA announced that their milfoil crew has spent the past few months suction harvesting and laying down hundreds of benthic barriers in the Sebago-Long Lake system. A new and exciting project they have been working on is building an electric suction harvester. This will add to their milfoil control fleet and will be much quieter and cleaner than the gas-powered harvesters. They anticipate the boat will be operational on Long Lake later this summer.
