To The Editor:

Many of us witness the daily dramas of life in Trump’s America and wonder what we as citizens can do to counteract the trampling of rights, the wielding of economic and physical weapons, the vulgarity, employment of fear, lack of empathy, etc. Almost reflexively we think of Lord Acton’s observation that, “power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” How can so many Americans still accept the president’s concept of greatness to the point of yielding our democratic heritage to a state of authoritarianism?
