Emmerson Madsen, formerly of Naples, makes her directorial debut at the Maine Mayhem Film Festival.

NAPLES — Emmerson Madsen, who spent their formative years being raised in Naples, has directed a short film premiering at the 16th annual Maine Mayhem Film Festival on May 7 at the Nickelodeon Cinemas in Portland.

Written and directed by Emmerson Madsen, The Social Kews is a dramedy film rooted in female familial relationships during grief. The Social Kews follows Kristen Kew planning the funeral of her mother-in-law while simultaneously balancing raising her daughter and hosting her sister-in-law. Kristen struggles with her out of the ordinary sister-in-law, the uniquely intimate death of her elderly mother-in-law, and keeping her two in-laws presentable to maintain her family’s social status in her religious community.
