CUT ROP dr shah at sweden town hall

TALKING POLITICS — The historic Sweden Town Hall was unusually busy last Tuesday as Dr. Nirav Shah spoke to over 70 voters in his run for the Democratic nomination for governor of Maine. Dr. Shah was the Maine CDC director during the COVID-19 pandemic.

My faith in, or maybe I should say my hope for, the democracy in the United States was greatly increased after attending the Oxford County Democrats Meet ’n’ Greet event on Jan. 6 in Sweden, Maine.

First, there was a real crowd, at least for Sweden. It is a very small town that is so off the beaten path that my GPS even sent me to the wrong road. Google maps just doesn’t get rural Maine. Yet more than 70 people showed up from towns throughout the region. Friendly people. Concerned people. Enthusiastic people who were busy signing the petitions for qualifying signatures needed for candidates to get on the ballot.
