Boy, what a storm we had this past weekend; such as seemed a true old-time blizzard. Blew the doors off anything we’ve had here this year, and in some place of the country anything they’ve seen in the past twenty. Hereabouts the warmest it got up to on Saturday was 6 degrees — and that’s a good deal better than the high of 4 below the day before. Just about froze my ears off getting another load of firewood the other night, and that’s with our woodshed kept handy to the house for ease of access. But isn’t that part of the joys of winter, to pull up a chair and toast your shins before the hearth while all the world freezes up outside? There’s chicken in the icebox and hermits in the breadbox, and all the kids had Monday off from school. Let’s hope the town still plows Church Street last to give the kids a place to sled.
