BERLIN — The fourth-seeded Berlin Mountaineers girls basketball team squared off against the undefeated Saint Thomas Aquinas on Friday, Jan. 30. The Saints came out hot in the opening quarter, jumping out to a 14-4 lead, and while Berlin battled to close the gap throughout the game, St. Thomas’ home court advantage never fully faded. In the end, strong rebounding and physical play in the paint helped the Saints pull away and remain unbeaten.
The Saints set the tone from the opening tip. Jules Stole attacked the rim early, while Molly Gainor controlled the glass, pulling down offensive rebounds and turning second-chance opportunities into points as STA jumped out to a 14-4 lead after the first quarter. Berlin struggled to match the Saints’ physicality inside and was playing catch-up early.
