Hello fellow Berlinites. During the third week of Dec. 1979, the Berlin Mills Bridge officially opened to pedestrians. The date that it reopened was on Thursday, Dec. 20. Work done by the city employees made the structure available for walkers and in the spring of 1980, it was rumored that it would open again for cars, but I do not think that this did take place.

Berlin lost another great civic leader on Dec. 21, 1979, when Lucien R. Lamoureaux passed away unexpectedly. Lucien left behind 30 years of business prominence, an active history of civic involvement and years of dedication to organizing activities for young and old alike. Mr. Lamoureaux had resided in Berlin since 1949.
