Sunday in Washington, D. C., was bleak, raw, and cold. It rained much of the day, occasionally making a half-hearted attempt to turn to snow. Our hotel room held warmth and comfort, a chance to just relax until the bus came to pick us up for the afternoon finale of the World Figure Skating Championships at the MCI Center. A promise to myself had been made, though, and so I donned the rain suit I had bought in Alaska last summer, and began the long walk that would fulfill the promise.
