To all successful candidates:

Congratulations! You are now off to Concord or Washington to represent your constituents and accomplish all the great things you intended when you started your campaign. This letter is intended to help you with the difficult transition from candidate to office holder. As a candidate, you devoted your energy to exaggerating your opponent’s positions on controversial issues. As a candidate, you avoided taking firm positions on the issues by providing the vaguest, motherhood and apple pie answers to the tough questions. The result was that you won!
