FRANCONIA — Winter has not released its grip on the mountains in northern New Hampshire. Even as it gets warmer very slowly at ground level, weather conditions upward are a different matter as three hikers found out on Monday.

On May 11, at 9:10 p.m., New Hampshire Fish and Game was notified of three hikers who needed assistance on Mount Lafayette in Franconia.
