BERLIN — For her volunteer work with Special Olympics, Pam Couture was honored Friday night with the prestigious Sylvia Evans Citizenship Award. For 36 years, the award has been given annually by Coos County Family Health Services to recognize the “extraordinary, often unrecognized contributions that women have made to the families of our region.”

Eleven years ago, Coos County Family Health Services decided to add a Sylvia Evans Young Leadership Award to highlight young women who display outstanding leadership and a strong dedication to community service. Honored Friday night as well were Kristen Goyette of Berlin High School, Abigail Bernier of Gorham Middle High School, Faith Daniels of Canaan Memorial High School in Canaan, Vt., and Falyn Haynes of Colebrook Academy.
