BERLIN — The school board will meet tonight (Thursday) to again review its budget ahead of an April 27 meeting with the city council. The proposed fiscal year 2027 budget is $25.6 million, a 4.45 percent increase from the FY26 or current budget. Salaries and benefits plus contracted services represent a significant portion of the school budget.

Seeing what vacant positions can be removed from the budget, if any exist, and any other financial reductions will be the charge for the school board following the April 20 city council meeting. Tammy Fauteux, the district educational services administrator, and Evan Arsenault, finance director, have attended city council meetings as councilors discuss the city budget. The school department is in charge of education curriculum, not the city.
