FRANCONIA — A snowmobile crash on Saturday on a trail in Franconia Notch injured a Massachusetts man, who suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

New Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation officers were notified of the crash on the Corridor 11 snowmobile trail in Franconia around 12:25 p.m. on Jan. 17. A conservation officer responded to the scene. While enroute it was learned the operator, Shawn McNinch, 54, of Beverly, Mass., was being taken by private vehicle to Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth. McNinch failed to negotiate an icy corner and struck several trees, according to conservation officers. McNinch was riding with another person who was able to help get him out of the woods. The snowmobile was destroyed in the crash. At this time the crash is still under investigation, but it appears speed and icy trails are the main contributing factor.
