Wearing his trademark MATH (Make America Think Harder) pin, Andrew Yang drew a curious crowd to his town hall at the Northland Restaurant. Most were interested in hearing about his Freedom Dividend plan to give every American over 18 years of age $1,000 a month as a way to provide a guaranteed basic income. Yang said the dividend would allow for a “trickle up” economy that would benefit workers in danger of losing jobs due to automation. He said millions of Americans do not have adequate retirement and access to health care is not guaranteed to all citizens. The son of immigrants from Taiwan, Yang said his parents sent him to Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire because he was getting bullied at school. An entrepreneur, Yang said he has helped create thousands of jobs around the country through his company, Venture for America. In addition to his October town meeting in Berlin, he held an earlier meet and greet at the Kelleys’ house in Randolph on March 21, 2019.
