BERLIN — An inaugural 5K race organized by two young Berlin men and aimed at benefiting the American Lung Association in honor of one of the men’s grandfathers launched successfully Sunday, and plans are to make it an annual event.

At least 40 participants ran or walked the Strive 5K course which began at Service Credit Union Heritage Park at Main Street, crossed the green bridge spanning the Androscoggin River to Hutchins Street, then followed East Milan Road until taking a turnaround at Ace Hardware. Onward to the finish at that point, also at Heritage Park. Orange markers along the route guided the runners and walkers to avoid any confusion about the correct path.
