COOS COUNTY — Candidates are making their final arguments as the countdown is on with Election Day less than a week away. Across the region as well as the country, voters will take to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 6.

The local race generating the most discussion is state Sen. Jeff Woodburn’s bid for a fourth term representing district 1 against Republican challenger David Starr of Franconia. The Whitefield Democrat was considered a strong favorite until his arrest on nine misdemeanor charges including two for domestic violence against his former fiancee. Woodburn has pleaded not guilty and is fighting the charges. While the party withdrew its support, he easily prevailed in the primary against a write-in candidate.
