District I State Senate Candidate David Starr

District I State Senate Candidate David Starr (R) of Franconia

1. Briefly tell us about yourself and your background.

Let's see. I started skiing Cannon Mountain way back when, like when I was 4 years old. My father used to dump me out on the old practice slope, with the rope tow, and go off and take some runs on the Tramway. He would swish by at lunch time and buy me a hamburger. They were only 25 cents back in those days. Later my father built a ski chalet at Mittersill and I have lots of good memories of family skiing from that chalet. The place came down to me upon my father's death and I skied with my three children on Cannon for many happy winters. I went into the Air Force after college and served a tour in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam war. I was over there the same year that John McCain got shot down. After my Air Force service, I obtained a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Delaware and spend 40 years doing new product development up and down Route 128. I took up shooting before (because of) my tour in Southeast Asia, and I am an NRA member today. I retired 10 years ago and have lived in Franconia, in the family ski chalet ever since. Youngest son graduated from Profile High in Bethlehem.
