Alf Halvorson's 1932 Olympic

Alf Halvorson

BERLIN — The stories flowed Saturday morning as three generations of Halvorsons gathered at the Berlin and Coos County Historical Society for the unveiling of the jacket Ski Hall of Famer Alf Halvorson wore as assistant coach of the 1932 U.S. Olympic Nordic Ski Team.

A ski jumper and ski promoter, Halvorson was a larger-than-life figure who was responsible for building the Nansen Ski Jump, was a founder of the U.S. Eastern Amateur Ski Association, and organized many major competitions to promote Nordic skiing and jumping throughout the East.
