GORHAM — Students in Christina Beardsley’s fourth-grade class, studying American civics, including the three branches of government, had the opportunity Oct. 23 to speak with an expert in the subject, U.S. Sen. Maggie Hassan.

“I’m just going to have a conversation with all of you,” Hassan said, entering the gymnasium inside the school building on Main Street. A large group of students sat on a cushioned blue mat, ready to listen.
