RANDOLPH — The 11th annual Randolph Ramble, a rugged 10-kilometer, self-supported trail-running race on Mount Crescent on the north side of Route 2, was run under unusually sunny warm skies on Saturday. Almost all 10 previous 6.2-mile (10k) back-country foot races have been run in snow or ice and below-freezing temperatures.

Under the specific design of its three original creators, the Ramble emphasizes self-sufficiency in the mountains: There are no aid stations, and, because late October is a transitional time of year, there’s a mandatory gear list.
