LANCASTER — The Weeks State Park summer program continues on Aug. 20 with its annual meeting at 5 p.m., followed by a program called History of the White Mountain National Forest: 1929-45 at 6 p.m. and on the morning of Aug. 21 with a field trip to Mud Pond presented by Tom Eid and David Govatski. Registration is required for the field trip.
The program presentation on Aug. 20 at 6 p.m. is the second of three on the history of the 800,000-acre White Mountain National Forest. After a quick review of the forest's creation, the turbulent period from 1929-1945 will be explored, including the Great Depression, the Civilian Conservation Corps, the 1938 Hurricane, and the impact of the Second World War on the White Mountains.
