BERLIN — Peak attendance on federal forest land in Berlin by attendees of the 51st annual Rainbow Family of Living Light National Gathering is expected on July 4 with the group expected to remain in Coos County until July 7, Berlin Police Chief Daniel Buteau told the city council at its meeting on Monday.

The group, known informally as the Rainbow People, was formed on July 1, 1972. The land on which the 51-year-old group is gathering for its camping festival is federal land in the White Mountain National Forest, Buteau said. The gathering is by Kilkenny Loop, an unincorporated area with far more trees than people, even momentarily.
