LANCASTER — The Weeks State Park summer program continues with Burnt into Memory: How Brownfield Faced the Fire on July 24, at 7 p.m. at the State of N.H. Forest and Lands building at the North Country Resource Center on Route 3 in Lancaster, one mile north of the Lancaster Fairgrounds.
In October 1947, a terrible wildfire destroyed almost all of the town of Brownfield, in western Maine, including its churches, schools, post office, and other public buildings, in just a few hours. In the face of the fire, Brownfield residents responded with courage, care, and, in some cases, obstinacy.
