Cathy Springman is artist of the month

COLEBROOK — Cathy Springman is the artist of the month at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook. Her paintings capture the beauty of the north country.

In her own words, Cathy says “Art has always brought joy into my life. I am my best self when I am creating. I come from a family of artists and makers. I was encouraged to engage in creative activities. As a young adult, I pursued an education in the fine arts. Life’s responsibilities turned me in other directions for many years. My artistic abilities were applied to designing gardens, plant styling and merchandising. Moving to the Northeast Kingdom, retiring and joining the Connecticut River Artisan Group has brought me back to making my art a priority. Living in such a beautiful area has inspired me to paint landscapes. Previously that subject did not really interest me. I especially love the CRAG plein air painting gatherings, outdoors in nature, which have pushed me out of my studio comfort zone. Once started, my art often takes on a direction and life of its own. I love taking classes, gathering with fellow artists and learning new techniques. I feel I am just getting started.”
